Eggy Custom Thread Field Groups is now released for XenForo 2.3.x.
XenForo already provides powerful custom thread fields, but once you start using larger sets of related fields they can quickly become difficult to organise for both administrators and users.
This add-on adds the missing grouping layer.
You can take existing XenForo custom thread fields and place them into named groups with their own public headings, descriptions and display order, while keeping XenForo's native field system fully in control.
What it does
- Create multiple custom thread field groups
- Assign existing XenForo custom thread fields to groups
- Use separate administrative and public-facing group titles
- Add optional group descriptions
- Control group display order
- Show group headings on thread forms
- Show grouped fields together on thread views
- Hide groups when all contained values are empty
- Move fields between groups at any time
- Leave ungrouped fields working normally
- Respect XenForo's native field display locations
- Preserve XenForo custom thread field data on uninstall
Example
A forum might have several custom fields relating to a coffee recipe:
- Roast Level
- Grind Size
- Grind Amount
- Yield
- Extraction Time
- Store / Price / Size
- Age of Beans
Instead of displaying them as one unrelated flat list, they can be grouped beneath a public heading such as:

The same grouped structure can then appear when users create a thread and when the saved values are displayed publicly.
Native XenForo behaviour is preserved
This add-on does not replace XenForo's custom thread field system.

The add-on simply provides the organisation and presentation layer around the existing fields.
