Desktop Client Security

A saved desktop-client entry may contain your BNC password.

Protect the computer and client profile accordingly.

Recommended precautions

  • Use a strong operating-system login password.
  • Lock the computer when unattended.
  • Keep the IRC client updated.
  • Download clients only from their official source.
  • Avoid untrusted scripts, themes and add-ons.
  • Do not share exported client configurations.
  • Review logs before uploading them publicly.
  • Sign out of shared or public computers.

Screenshots

Before posting a screenshot, check for:

  • Saved passwords.
  • Complete connection commands.
  • Email addresses.
  • IP addresses.
  • Private messages.
  • Session information.

Client scripts and add-ons

Third-party scripts can read client windows, commands or saved settings.

Do not install a script simply because another IRC user sends it to you.

Eggy BNC support cannot verify every third-party desktop-client add-on.

Suspected compromise

If you believe your password was exposed:

  1. Secure your registered email account.
  2. Change the Eggy BNC password through the website.
  3. Update every saved desktop client.
  4. Review dashboard network and account settings.
  5. Contact Account Support if unauthorised changes appear.
