Changing Your IRC Nickname

IRC nickname settings are managed in the Networks area rather than directly from the Identity page.

This keeps the nickname attached to the correct IRC network.

Change a network nickname

1. Open the dashboard.
2. Select Networks.
3. Find the affected IRC network.
4. Open its edit controls.
5. Change the preferred nickname.
6. Review the alternate nickname.
7. Save the network settings.

The dashboard updates the network and its safe identity information together.

Alternate nickname

The alternate nickname is used when the preferred nickname is unavailable.

Choose an alternative that is valid on the external IRC network.

If the nickname is not accepted

Possible causes include:

• The nickname is already in use.
• The nickname is registered to another user.
• The network does not allow one of the characters.
• The nickname exceeds the network's length limit.
• The network requires identification with its nickname service.
